Cult of Ashand - Chapter One
Oct 24, 20:56 by Stefan KoopmanschapCult of Ashand is a relatively new project from the UK. It’s a collaborative project of two english composers who work in several genres ranging from powernoise to dark ambient to experimental.
The music that they make together under the ‘Cult of Ashand’ moniker is very hard to catch in a few words. A few keywords that I can come up with are: mystical, epic, adventerous, varied.
Most of the album is quite ambient in nature. There are some exceptions though, where rhythms enter the fray. The rhythms definately enrich the music where it is used, but they definately aren’t necessary in the rest of the tracks.
Another very interesting thing is the use of robotic voices, telling the story of the Cult of Ashand. It makes you pay attention to what is happening even more. It keeps you focussed, and it gives you a perspective on the meaning of the music.
Yes, this album is definately very interesting. It tells a story, literally and with it’s music. I truely believe that a movie could be made using the story and music, combining it with images to create a full Cult of Ashand experience. And I would be the first to want to see this movie!
