The Chemical Brothers - Push The Button
Mar 12, 14:57 by Stefan KoopmanschapI used to be one of the biggest fans of the Chemical Brothers. Attended quite a few performances by the Brothers in The Netherlands. Was a hardcore member of the Chemical Brothers mailinglist back in the days. They lost my interest bit by bit though, after the release of Surrender and especially after Come With Us. Those two albums contained a few individual tracks that I liked, but not enough for me to even buy them when they were just out. I bought Surrender later when it was on sale.
So why the history? Well, simply so I can now say: THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS ARE BACK! With Push The Button, they finally are able to create a full album of very refreshing, original material. No, it’s not the banging chemical beats anymore. It’s not the old material anymore. But that’s good! Where with the previous albums they decided to explore the area of more mainstream house stuff (which was quite boring imho) they now find their way into very refreshing material. Still a lot of focus on breakbeats, an occasional house rhythm, but also a lot of other influences. Hip hop (their roots!), ethnic, pop. It’s all there, in the perfect mix.
Yes, I am definately looking with interest at what will come next. I unfortunately missed their show here in The Netherlands, but I’ll have to pay attention for other shows. Because with material like this, I’ll definately give it another go.
Released on Virgin
