Ex PMX - SCRAPHEAP BI*RECYCLED

Oct 20, 23:57 by Stefan Koopmanschap

We countered Ex PMX earlier on the compilation that came from Beluga, and now the full-length album is available. A joy, I must say, to have a full record of this act, as the music is truly a joy to listen to.

From the opening track, Hardboiled, until the last track on this CD, SOFT…FAST, you get a stream of music consistent in style and quality, yet with enough variety to stay very interesting.

Some of the vocals trigger something of amusement in me, for instance on Bulldog. I highly doubt that it was meant in any other way than to be amusing, humoristic. The vocals do give a poppy sound to the music that is otherwise probably not something you’d quickly find on the mainstream charts.

But how to classify this music then, if you want to do such a thing? Maybe something like synth-experi-pop-idm-electro-breaks? Definitely high quality music that is very original, something that not a lot of artists get to achieve anymore these days with a lot of artists trying to clone popular artists’ styles. It works as music to listen to, but some tracks would definitely also work on the dancefloor. And I’m pretty sure seeing Ex PMX perform live would also be a highly enjoyably experience. I could easily see Ex PMX perform on such festivals as InterZone (Utrecht, Netherlands) or Maschinenfest (Germany).

Probably my favorite track is Jesus ‘round the corner, with a good driving rhythm, nice vocals and great lofi sounds. A typical headnodder, such as we can find more than once on this album, but for some reason not as driving as Jesus ‘round the corner.

It is definitely music for people who are into this type of music, it’s not something for the masses, but I definitely enjoy this music a lot.

Released on Beluga Recordings
