Chas Mollet - Untitled

Apr 6, 00:52 by Stefan Koopmanschap

Two tracks from Chas Mollet on the by now quite widely reviewed label (on EMW at least) Audio Aubergine.

Erotos is the first track, bringing an electro-influenced IDM track with many a weird bleep, woven into a nice rhythmic track. The melody is simple but fitting, adding to the feel of the track. I do feel that nearly 8:30 minutes is maybe a bit too long, as the track doesn’t change overly much. A bit shorter, the track had probably been all the more powerful.

Groove Spook is the second track, a track of minimal twinkling rhythms. Over the course of the track, sounds come in, sounds go out, and occasional sounds are only heard every once in a while. Even though the track is only 3:52, I can’t say I’m being entertained all throughout. Very minimal, maybe a bit too minimal for my tastes.

I’m afraid I didn’t really dig this release as much as I did others of the same label. But tastes differ. This release is definitely less accessible than some others.

Released on Audio Aubergine
