Ferry Corsten - L.E.F.
Sep 6, 22:38 by Stefan KoopmanschapLong overdue, I finally have the time to sit down and write down my thoughts on this album. It is actually a good thing, for I have been listening to this album over and over the last months.
There is trance, and then there is trance. Ferry Corsten is neither. This dutch artist, an artist The Netherlands can be proud of, gives his own personal spin to what others might define as trance. Those who know me a bit better know that I’m far from a bit lover of trance music. Ferry Corsten definitely knows what to do to make even me start liking this branch of music I usually ignore.
Being a parttime Duran Duran fan, and a music purist, Corsten had an extra negative note for me: He took up on remixing ‘Serious’, one of the best things Duran Duran ever did. Also, he sampled ‘Cubik’, an old rave track that belongs to the classics of the late 80’s/early 90’s rave scene, another thing I’d usually see as sacrilege. However, also in this, his skills brought jewels of a track to the world. The guy can not do wrong! Both tracks respect the original, and build on that in the specific Ferry Corsten style.
Only Freefalling sounds a bit out of place in this album, being more laidback and downtempo. It’s a good closer though. Unfortunately, all the different editions worldwide have an added bonus track that negate the effect of Freefalling as a closer, and even though I really like the Prison Break remix that was added to the edition I received, I don’t really like it that it was added.
All in all, this album is recommended even for those who do not usually like the trance genre that much. It’s refreshing, gives a whole different view on the genre of trance. Top!
